America is a nation of laws and a nation shaped by immigration. A responsible immigration policy must recognize both of our truths!

My administration would modernize border security using a coordinated, results-based strategy rather than relying on slogans or any single physical barrier. Security resources should focus on stopping trafficking, smuggling, violence, and unlawful entry while improving lawful ports of entry.

Immigration courts would receive additional judges, staff, interpreters, and modern case-management tools to reduce delays that currently leave families, employers, and communities waiting for years.

The ‘I Lift My Lamp Beside the Golden Door’ Act that I have come up with would: At once, create an earned lawful pathway for qualifying, long-established undocumented residents who meet requirements involving background checks, taxes or penalties, employment or community ties, and civic or language progress.

Immigration laws would continue to be enforced, but enforcement agencies would be held to clear humanitarian and professional standards. Abuse, dangerous conditions, and misconduct should result in investigation, reform, and accountability. This applies directly to ICE.

My policies:

  • Modernize border security.

  • Target trafficking and smuggling organizations.

  • Expand legal ports of entry and processing capacity.

  • Reduce immigration-court delays.

  • Pass the I Lift My Lamp Beside the Golden Door Act.

  • Maintain background checks and civic requirements.

  • Establish humane enforcement standards.

  • Hold agencies accountable for misconduct.
